When I co-founded Dowling & Yahnke 29 years ago, I did so with the belief that we should do right by our clients, our employees, and our community. The senseless killing of George Floyd is a poignant and tragic reminder of the racial injustices and discrimination that persist to this day. It is rightly an emotionally difficult and painful time, and this heartbreak runs deep. While we cannot fully know the unique experiences any individual has faced, we recognize the importance of standing up for one another.
Every client, colleague, and community member should have access to opportunities regardless of the color of their skin, their gender, religion, or sexual orientation. Any form of discrimination should not be tolerated, accepted, or normalized. To achieve these ideals, we have work to do.
For us at Dowling & Yahnke, action starts inside our doors. We are committed to equity and inclusion, and we are actively listening and learning. We recognize that this is a long journey, and there are no quick fixes. While there is much to be done, we believe that some of our greatest potential impact lies in these three areas:
Increasing Diverse Employee Representation: Diverse teams are strong teams. As we strive to have a workforce that reflects the diversity of the world in which we live, we are examining our hiring practices and actively implementing outreach strategies to attract and retain diverse talent.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training: A successful workplace survives and thrives when everyone feels safe, welcome, and included. We know that we need to actively foster such an open environment. Therefore, we are adding diversity, equity, and inclusion training for every staff member.
Community Support: We have doubled the match we provide our employees as they invest their philanthropic dollars in our community. In addition, as a firm, we are committed to donating our time, our talent, and our dollars to improve our community.
I am proud to lead a firm that continues to grow and change. We strive to make a difference every day in the lives of our clients, our colleagues, and our community. We look to the future with determination, compassion, humility, and optimism.
